Greater access to comprehensive, and affordable cancer treatment services for all Nigerians.

Commissioned by President Mohammadu Buhari, and under the care of the Federal Ministry of Health, the centre aims to bring Nigeria closer to meeting its goal of providing quality, critical health infrastructure. Additionally, the centre will focus on the growth of local expertise through the continuing education of healthcare professionals.

Until recently, cancer treatment was either inaccessible or prohibitively expensive, with only patients who could afford to do so travelling abroad to seek treatment. With the development of the NSIA – LUTH Cancer Treatment Centre, comprehensive and affordable cancer treatment services are now within reach for many Nigerians. Once fully operational, the centre will have the capacity to serve about 3000 cancer patients every year.

Luth Advanced Medical Services Limited (LAMSL) appointed Healthshare as an independent contractor to operate, maintain and manage the LUTH Cancer Treatment Centre.

The project was divided over two phases,
a) pre-commissioning phase using Healthshare’s integrated healthcare facility planning and commissioning service
b) operational phase using Healthshare’s operational management of healthcare facilities service.
The NLCC officially opened its doors to patients on 1 May 2019.

Pre-commissioning Phase: November 2018 – 30 April 2019
Objective: Commission and manage the outpatient cancer treatment centre
Duration: 2 years
Function:

Healthshare developed a detailed commissioning plan articulating a work plan, timetable, milestone events, estimated cost and resource requirements, and primary risk assessment.

    • accessibility plan
    • occupational health and safety policies
    • contract suppliers for pharmaceuticals, medical consumables, hospital textiles, office supplies and consumables
    • develop and implement a Marketing and communications plan
Operational Phase: May 2019 – 2020
Objective: Full operational management of the outpatient cancer treatment centre. Implementation of quality control processes to effect a high quality service at affordable prices to attract sufficient patients.
